Håkan

This is the man that takes care of Eli.  In the story, he is a pedophile and murderer. Yes, it is disturbing but he would never touch Eli because he knows that she could kill him in a second. He takes care of her because she is too young to fend for herself in the world because she looks so young, so he poses as her father. When he goes to get fresh blood for Eli, he fails. He is so wrapped up in himself that he actually messes up again and this time there are serious consequences. He realizes that he is going to be caught so he pours and acidic liquid over his face so he is unidentifiable. He is taken to the hospital when he basically becomes a zombie. His face is melted off and he is practically immobile. Eli eventually kills him too.

Johnny

He is Oskar's biggest tormentor. He beats him up, makes him squeal like a pig, never lets him be. Johnny is always threatening Oskar and he keeps him constantly on edge. When Johnny attempts to throw Oskar through the ice into a frozen lake, Oskar hits him in the ear with a branch. Johnny looses his hearing and is gushing blood everywhere. He calls on his brother to get back at Oskar for what he did. Johnny eventually dies at the end of the novel.

 Jimmy

Johnny's brother is older than him by a lot and is also a drug dealer. He's never been a good kid and since Johnny is his little brother he agrees to get back at the kid who hit him in the ear. Throughout the novel, Oskar mentions him a couple of times but he never makes an entrance until the end. He is the one that holds a switchblade to Oskar's eye and says he has to stay underwater until he lets him come up. Otherwise, he looses an eye. Eli ends up killing Jimmy.

Mickey

Mickey is a lesser character. He is one of Johnny's minions. He beats up Oskar, too but it's only because he's made to be Johnny. He feels bad about hitting him in the face and he doesn't want to be a jerk, but due to social pressure he either has to be a bully or get bullied himself. Eli spares his life at the pool because he didn't plan any of it, he was just present.

There is also another boy that follows Johnny around.

Virginia

Virginia is part of the group of friends including Jocke and Lacke. She is dating Lacke. One night during an argument she leaves the house and is attacked by Eli, who is just trying to survive but because she sucked her blood and didn't completely drain her and she didn't break her neck, she turned Virginia into a vampire. Virginia realizes what she is becoming a few days later and cannot bare the thought. She goes to the hospital where she tells the nurse to open the blinds. The sun shines on her and she is engulfed in flames.

Lacke

He is best friends with Jocke and he is dating Virginia. All of them are middle aged if not a little bit older. He first starts becoming depressed when he finds out that Jocke had been killed and his body was thrown into a lake, but what hurts him again is when he witnesses his Virginia being attacked. He then later watches her set on fire and die. Determined to find the thing that killed his friend and girl, he looks for clues. he is ultimately lead Eli's apartment. He almost gets one over on her but Oskar comes in and Eli awakes and they both kill Lacke together.

Jocke

He is in the story for a short amount of time. Jocke is friends with the couple, Lacke and Virginia. He is also Eli's first victim when Håkan fails to get her fresh blood. She lures him under a bridge pretending to be a helpless and abandoned child. He picks her up to help her and she attacks him. She drains him, breaks his neck, and leaves him in the snow, leaving it up to Håkan to dispose of the body.
